Advent 2014 Day 24

Advent Day 24

Matthew 2:1-2

How far out of your way would you go to worship Christ our Savior? Knowing He willingly placed Himself between your sin and the Father’s wrath, it wouldn’t be a surprise if you gave up an entire 2
hours on any given Sunday. That would be a great sacrifice for some, others seem to only give up what is most convenient. Somehow, in our busy lives, we feel if we make a showing at Church and manage to get home by three for a nap, we’ve journeyed a great distance for the sake of the King! In Matthew 2:1-2 we see some pagan Magi traveling hundreds of miles to see a Child, born King of the Jews.

These wise men from the east were likely of Babylonian or Assyrian lineage, and had been told of this great event by their trainers and teachers, who were possibly taught by Daniel during the exile years. They had watched the sky their whole lives; learning the stars and spotting any change. Once the celestial announcement was evident, they mounted up and forged a path toward Israel. These men were well educated, and knew the language and prophecies concerning a Jewish Messiah, even better than the supposed king, Herod.

When the Magi arrived, they had a mindset of worship. Much can be learned from these heathen, pagan magicians. They can teach a valuable lesson. No matter how far the journey; no matter how long it takes; wise people seek Jesus, and when they encounter Him, worship is always the end result. Come and worship Christ, the King of all Kings.
