Advent 2014 Day 18

Advent Day 18

Luke 2:4

Can you imagine what it was like to be in Joseph’s shoes? He was a man who was asked to be obedient to God’s plan concerning the birth of the Savior and his fiancée Mary. We know that he was a good man but it was evident that he was also a godly man. He faithfully did what God had asked him to do. We see this in today’s passage as Joseph, a descendant of King David, led the journey back to his home town of Bethlehem to register for the census. His willingness to take Mary with him was truly admirable. It ultimately fulfilled the prophecy of the birthplace of Christ (Micah 5:2) and of the lineage of David (Isaiah 9:7).

And what would Joseph face when he returned home? What questions would come up concerning this child that was not his, but of God? This did not derail his mission to do what was right and honorable. Joseph knew that God’s plan was much bigger than others’ perceptions. Traveling back home with an obviously pregnant Mary was probably not an easy task but he continued on knowing there was a promise of a son that would save the people from their sins.

God wants to use all of us to bring about his purposes and plans in our lives. By trusting in His promises and faithfully following His instructions, we find ourselves in the center of His will. No matter how long or how hard the journey may look in front of you, carry on knowing that God has His hand on you.
