Advent Day 17

 

Matthew 1:18

This is the introductory verse to a passage showing Joseph’s character. Although he knew that he and Mary had not yet come together, she was expecting a child. Because of this, he was ridiculed and dishonored among his people. The law stated that he could have had her stoned. This verse is setting the stage for the virgin birth of Jesus.

 

God’s ways are not our ways. Joseph was confused and heart broke at Mary’s condition at first. He, or anyone for that matter, did not understand what God was doing. Just like Joseph we cannot always see God’s plan for our lives. But we must be Joseph in our trials! Look at the incredible miracle that Joseph was a part of because even in his confusion he remained faithful in serving the Lord.
